At a gathering of science professionals, Novel D, a brilliant but eccentric scientist, meets Veronia, a cyborg entity intent on unlocking the potential of balaeric and disco. Novel D takes V to his loft and reveals a set of "vinyl records" that allow instantaneous teleportation of an object. V agrees to document Novel D's work. Although the "records" can transport inanimate objects, they do not work on living things, as is demonstrated when a baboon is turned inside-out during a funk experiment. Novel D and V begin to move and their dance provides inspiration for Novel D, who sets about reprogramming the mix "to cope with living flesh." A second baboon is teleported successfully.
