Ella Senbruns is an emerging Brisbane-based artist and illustrator. She has a fascination with reoccurring patterns, specifically in the structural similarities between naturally occurring forms. Through the lenses of drawing and painting, Ella unfurls her subject matter to learn the essential qualities of line that make up their forms, and then regurgitates these to create strange and meticulous biomorphic constructions. The figures and scenes Ella produces are reminiscent of science fiction, psychedelia, surrealism, art nouveau and classical painting. They are often highly narrative driven and contain strong emotional undercurrents. Her work teeters somewhere at the threshold of the abstract and recognisable, the sensuous and confronting, the familiar and alien. She is currently fascinated by the point at which contracting binary states paradoxically overlap, and the strange sensation that accompanies this dissolution of boundaries. Ella completed a Bachelor of Fine Art at the Queensland College of Art in 2020 and is currently completing her Honours year through the university.
